Whalley Range 11-18 High School
A Specialist College for Business, Enterprise and Sport

The Sixth Form is currently being refurbished as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme with exciting new facilities planned. Our students are involved in making suggestions and choices for these.
Our students have their own Common Room and other facilities - toilets, lockers, dining area - separate from the Main School. There is is access to the sixth form study rooms, including access to the school computer network, from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm each day. Most Sixth Form classes take place in the specialist rooms in the Main School, which is also being refurbished.
We have a large school computer network, modern science labs, dance, drama and art studios and our own radio and TV station which students help to run. To the rear of the school, but on the same site, is Range Stadium in which sixth formers can enjoy a number of sporting activities. The Sports staff also organise off site provision, for example, swimming and rock climbing. The stadium hosts a number of prestigious basketball events throughout the year.
We are fortunate to have a working partnership with Loreto College, Manchester, our nearest Post-16 Education provider. Our students will have the opportunity to participate in some learning opportunities at this successful college. Some academic subjects which are not available here at Whalley Range may be studied at Loreto College. The partnership not only gives our students additional opportunities but both providers can share good practice.
We offer a rich and varied extra curricular programme. We expect each student to get involved with some aspect of it, whether it be training as a Millennium Volunteer, helping younger pupils in reading or taking up one of our work experience placements. We expect a partnership with parents. Parents are always welcome to attend their daughter’s initial interview. They will receive regular updates on progress and there is at least one parents' consultation evening each year.
Each student will receive a quality education experience. Their tutor and teachers will help them succeed on their chosen pathway. Students will have access to the Learning Resource Base and to the ICT system for private study. Students will receive guidance and support in preparing for the next stage of their career, be it at University, a further education course or employment.
